Coming on the heels of the first no-hitter at Comerica Park, Mike Maroth will take the mound as the Detroit Tigers continue a three-game interleague series with the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday. He will be opposed by Chris Capuano, who has lost five straight decisions since beginning the MLB betting season with a 5-0 record and a 2.31 ERA over his first seven starts. The Tigers are a –120 favorite with a total of 9.5.
In Tuesday's opener of the baseball betting series, Justin Verlander tossed the sixth no-hitter in franchise history as the Tigers posted a 4-0 victory. The reigning American League Rookie of the Year recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts and yielded four walks. It was the first no-hitter for Detroit since Jack Morris spun one against the Chicago White Sox on April 7, 1984.
Maroth (4-2, 5.29 ERA) picked up a win in his last start, allowing three runs and eight hits in five innings in an 11-4 victory over the Texas Rangers on Thursday. He will hope to extend the Tigers' current three-game winning streak even though he has struggled at Comerica Park this MLB betting season. The lefthander has gone 0-2 with a 5.60 ERA in four starts at home. However, overall he has been a reliable bet over the last year and a half, as shown by this trend:
MAROTH is 15-5 (+11.7 Units) against the money line in all games over the last 2 baseball betting seasons. (Team's Record)
Capuano has been roughed up over his personal losing streak, giving up 24 runs and 40 hits in 31 1/3 innings over his last six starts. The 28-year-old lasted just four innings in a 9-6 loss to the Rangers on Friday, surrendering six runs and eight hits with four walks.
The Brewers have lost four of their last five games, and 20 of their last 30 since opening the season 24-10. If they have anything going for them tonight however, it could be this trend on Capuano:
CAPUANO is 10-3 (+10.5 Units) against the money line in road games vs. teams outscoring opp by 0.5 or more runs/game on the season over the last 3 seasons. (Team's Record)
Both teams have fared well against southpaws this season, with Detroit going 13-5 and Milwaukee, 12-8. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM ET. Get all the latest stats, trends, and live odds by clicking on the respective links on the left side menu of the Sportsbook home page.
